Thompson Votes to Overide Iraq Veto, Protect Gays, Increase Head Start funding
(May 2007)

Mike Thompson voted for the futile attempt to override President Bush's veto of the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations (H.R. 1591), originally the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veteran's Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act (H.R. 2006). The bill contained some very hesitant, moderate language about withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. Veto overrides require a 2/3 vote in both the House and the Senate. In the House this vote failed even though 222 members voted for it, 203 against, with 8 not voting.

The Improving Head Start Act passed 365-48, with 19 not voting. Representative Thompson voted for the Act. More on Head Start.

The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007 expanded the definition of hate crime to include sexual orientation. Mike Thompson voted for the bill, which passed 237-180, with 16 not voting. (H.R. 1592)
