Mike Thompson Appointed Chairman of House Subcommittee on Terrorism
(February 2, 2007)

Mike Thompson has been appointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Human
Intelligence, Analysis and Counterintelligence. For brevity I'll call it the Terror Chair from now on. Thompson is a Vietnam War veteran, for what it's worth. The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, oversees Thompson's subcommittee. Representative Sylvestre Reyes, D-Texas, is chairman. Thompson has served in Congress 8 years, but was only recently appointed to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Mendocino County peace activist Richard Johnson stated, "In the next election, antiwar activists on the north coast will be in the enviable position of voting to reelect a congressman who not only is against the war, but fights terrorists, too."

It is a big boost in Mr. Thompson's power. Mike also is on the Ways and Means Committee, one of the most powerful in Congress.

With Mike is watching terrorists, or watching U.S. Intelligence agencies watch terrorists (and maybe even just ordinary dissidents), it is even more important for the citizens of the 1st Congressional District of California to keep an eye on Mike.
